Eddie Vega
Success Story
Eddie Vega is a 53-year-old counselor from Lubbock, Texas. When not spending time with his wife and five children, he enjoys exercising and fishing.
Recently, while traveling to Amarillo for a work conference, Eddie began experiencing symptoms consistent with a stroke. Having had a previous stroke, he recognized the warning signs and immediately called 911. He was transported by EMS to an acute care hospital, where he was admitted and remained for five days, including three days in the intensive care unit.
Following initial treatment and stabilization, Eddie chose Trustpoint Rehabilitation Hospital of Lubbock (TRHL) for inpatient rehabilitation, based on a recommendation from a friend. TRHL holds a national certification in stroke rehabilitation from The Joint Commission, demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to achieving better outcomes for stroke patients.
Upon arrival at TRHL, Eddie had significant weakness and numbness in his right foot and arm. “I had lost my confidence to walk independently,” he says.
Eddie worked with the hospital’s interdisciplinary healthcare team that developed an individualized treatment plan to help him regain strength and mobility. Throughout his rehabilitation, Eddie says the therapy team—including physical, occupational, and speech therapists—continually challenged him to go beyond his perceived limitations.
“I’m so grateful because the therapists gave me the confidence to walk again and believe in myself,” Eddie says. “I have a whole new appreciation for life. I’m ready to enjoy it with the second chance I’ve been given, thanks to TRHL.”
After six days at the hospital, Eddie was discharged to home. He’s looking forward to returning to work, exercising, fishing, and spending time with his family.
